De Japanse hulst is een van de meest populaire haagplanten op moment. Deze van oorsprong Aziatische haag heeft een prachtige uitstraling. De bladeren zijn klein en in de herfst groeien en besjes aan, die in een groot deel van de winter nog steeds zichtbaar zijn. Met de compacte vorm kun je al snel een mooie, volle haag in je tuin hebben met de prachtige Japanse hulst.

Groei

Qua groei staat de Japanse hulst bekend als relatief langzame groeier. Gemiddeld komt er zo’n 20 – 35 centimeter per jaar bij. De Japanse hulst ‘Green Hedge’ is daarbij nog de meest snelgroeiende haag. Sommige soorten kunnen we twee meter hoog worden, zoals de Green  Hedge! Hiermee zorg je voor een prachtige heg die bijvoorbeeld inkijk vanuit de voortuin naar binnen toe voorkomt of wat juist zorgt voor een hele mooie afscheiding in de achtertuin. Door deze tweemaal per jaar te snoeien bevorder je de groei en zorg je ervoor dat je een mooie, volle haag krijgt. Het advies is om deze zowel voor als na de zomer te snoeien. Doe dit echter niet op een zonnige dag, want dan verbranden de bladeren en werkt het snoeien juist averechts.
